Innovation has long been a priority at Real Betis, which is why the club reached a partnership agreement with the award-winning e-wallet company MuchBetter in 2021. They have since been working together to roll out a small and lightweight FOB that can clip on to supporters’ key rings, allowing them to more quickly pass through the Estadio Benito Villamarín turnstiles on matchdays and to make purchases in an even more secure way once inside.
The FOB is green, so allows fans to proudly show off their love for Real Betis on their key ring. But, this is no ordinary key chain accessory, as the Real Betis FOB can be linked with fans’ season tickets to access the stadium and can be tapped at the kiosks to purchase refreshments. There are other benefits too, as this system can help prevent the illegal resale of season tickets or even locate a minor’s seats should they get lost.
As the club added: “The all-in-one concept is undoubtedly synonymous with convenience. With this project, it allows access to the stadium, allows payment at stadium kiosks and even allows parents to send money to their children without the need for them to carry wallets, rely on mobile phone battery or signal.”
With detailed video instructions, it is very easy to set up and to link a supporter’s FOB with their season ticket and their MuchBetter account. This innovative project is still in a trial phase during the 2021/22 season, but those who have already started using their Real Betis FOB are very satisfied with how this technology is making the matchday experience easier and safer.
The club shared some early takeaways from the feedback, stating: “The hundreds of fans who already have the FOB are very happy with it. This first season is focused on promotion and product awareness and next year we hope to implement it on a larger scale. Hopefully a large number of fans will be able to enjoy the benefits of the FOB.”
This project is a natural next step for Real Betis, as the directors at Los Verdiblancos have always tried to stay ahead of the curve and to embrace the latest trends. In fact, Real Betis were one of the first clubs to enable ticketless entry for fans via their mobile phone, while they have also invested significant resources into improving the WiFi at the venue.
Discussing this innovative mindset, the club said: “At Real Betis, we always want to be at the forefront in a digital sense and to be pioneers in the development and use of new technologies, ones which can make life easier for fans. We are firm believers in digital evolution and transformation, so we have to take advantage of all the benefits that this brings us. Since the pandemic, the public has already been made increasingly aware of cashless mechanisms, so this project is just a reaffirmation of the existing social trends.”
As the Real Betis FOB becomes more widespread in 2022/23 and beyond, the club will continue to plan ahead for the future, always looking for ways to use technology to make the matchday experience even better for fans.
