LaLiga joins commercial alliance in Thailand to create virtual running competition
  • ‘LaLiga Virtual Run Thailand 2021’ offers fans the chance to compete and join online community together with partners such as LaLiga, Starbucks and Rexona.
  • The event is designed to promote healthy living and exercise in response to the global pandemic.

This month saw the launch of a new online running community backed by LaLiga and a wide range of high-profile commercial partners, designed to promote healthy competition in Thailand while offering new engagement opportunities for the Spanish competition.

‘LaLiga Virtual Run Thailand 2021’ is the first-ever virtual race organised by LaLiga. By signing up to a new online community, sports fans can purchase race packs that cover 5km, 10km or 21km respectively, using an app to measure their distance.

Within each park are giveaways including a medal, an e-bib, virtual certificate and gifts from event sponsors. Rexona, Iqoniq, Starbucks, Shopee and Marrakesh Hua Hin Resort & Spa are among the brands actively involved in the event, with further collaboration from beIN Sports, AIS, Sanook, Siamsport, Khobsanam, Goal Thailand and Main Stand.

Organised by LaLiga and promoted by amc asia!, participants can start the race at any time between 1 and 19 March, to be completed within a seven-week timeframe. Rather than pushing for the fastest time, the initiative is designed to promote more people to engage in healthy outdoor activities, particularly after the home confinement that has been enforced by the Covid 19 pandemic.

Having reached their chosen distance, participants are asked to submit a photo to the website, at which point they will receive their medal. Having participated in the competition itself, members of the community will also be able to take part in weekly challenges where they will be able to earn points, which in turn can be redeemed for exclusive prizes on the site.

“At LaLiga we’re striving to promote healthy habits associated with taking part in sport,” explained Jose Maria Gotor, LaLiga’s delegate in Thailand. “This way, fans of football or running get the opportunity to enjoy themselves in a healthy way. We are extremely happy to be launching this initiative in Thailand and we are certain that it will be a fantastic, fun experience.”
