Javier Tebas: “Commercial revenues have grown by 33% since the launch of BOOST LALIGA"
  • The LALIGA President provided an update on the BOOST LALIGA project during the III Clubs Conference, highlighting the growth in the areas of social media, commercial income and stadium attendance.

On February 6th and 7th, the III Clubes Conference took place in Tarragona and was attended by approximately 650 football industry professionals, some 200 more than during the previous year’s edition. This annual gathering of LALIGA clubs is becoming an ever more important event on the Spanish football calendar.

At the 2024 edition, Javier Tebas, the President of LALIGA, provided an update on the BOOST LALIGA project. He shared some statistics which speak to how much progress Spanish clubs have already made, while underlining the importance of working together to help boost Spanish football as a whole.

Addressing the audience, Tebas stated: “Each club has its idiosyncrasies, its commercial history and its sporting history. But, there is a collective awareness factor that has been created. We are on the right track and we are pushing for the objectives that we set out three seasons ago when we started.”

He continued: “Social media followers? Growth. Commercial revenue for clubs? Growth. Attendance at stadiums? Growth. These are three factors that depend a lot on the clubs and that are going well. And we will continue to grow.”

Zeroing in on those three key factors to the success of the BOOST LALIGA project, the LALIGA President pointed to some relevant statistics which prove how much the clubs have improved in the areas of social media, commercial income and stadium attendance.

He explained: “Clubs’ social media followers have grown since 2022, reaching 1,100 million. In addition, spectators are spending more minutes in front of the television watching our football, which goes with the larger attendances at stadiums, which are key aspects. We have a lot of football fans. We can see it in stadium attendance. Already last season we broke a record, from the pre-Covid era, in the history of stadium attendance of spectators. And this season I think we will break the stadium attendance record again.”

He continued: “I would like to highlight the growth of the clubs and LALIGA in recent years. For example, commercial revenues have grown by 33% since the launch of BOOST LALIGA, exceeding 1,000 million euros. We’re doing well, and we have to continue.”

The clubs will continue to work hard to accelerate their growth, and the various talks and workshops held at the III Clubs Conference will help them to achieve this. Topics such as digital strategy, branding, stadium infrastructure, technology, internationalisation and commercial growth were all discussed during the two days of the conference.

Clubs that have achieved significant progress in certain areas spoke about their success stories, a prime example of the ethos of knowledge sharing that the III Clubs Conference is all about. LALIGA also brought in experts from other countries, competitions and industries, such as Uber, Scuderia Ferrari, Stade Toulousain, AS Roma and the Deutsche Fußball Liga. They also shared advice and outlined tips, all with the aim of continuing the incredible growth that Spanish clubs have experienced in the past few years.
