Granada CF embrace augmented and virtual reality technologies to create a stadium tour like no other
  • By working with Bstadium and offering a 360º immersive experience, the Andalusian club have enhanced the tour at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes.
  • This is a welcome development for Granada as a whole, as the city now has another top-class attraction to show off.

Granada CF has taken the revolutionary step of incorporating augmented and virtual reality technologies into its visit to the new Estadio de los Cármenes, allowing visitors to fully connect with the passion and history of the stadium. This breakthrough represents a milestone in the club's growth as an institution.

By collaborating with Bstadium, Granada CF have crafted a unique experience. Not only can visitors check out areas such as the dressing rooms, the tunnel, the press area and the presidential box, but they can also step out next to the pitch and do so wearing special glasses that offer a 360º immersive experience. Visitors can also use their mobile phones for other interactive moments throughout the tour, which is offered in Spanish and in English.

“We have evolved from having a limited physical tour to having a personal exhibition that offers a new virtual, interactive and digital experience, which is pioneering in Spanish football,” the club explained.

This isn’t the first time the Nazaríes have embraced new technologies. Granada CF pointed out: "The club is firmly committed to using new technologies to stand out. One example is with the digitalisation of our nutritional processes to improve player performance, while we’ve also worked on R&D&I projects together with the University of Granada, related to sporting events, and reached agreements with leading digital companies such as Bstadium, Moovit or our main sponsor, Platzi. These are some examples that show our interest in professionalising the sporting section and improving the experience of football fans.”

An experience that complements Granada’s other tourist attractions

The experience of the football fans who come to the stadium to enjoy the tour has certainly been improved thanks to the augmented and virtual reality technologies, which is a welcome development for the city of Granada as a whole.

The historic city boasts many landmarks and has a variety of attractions to offer its tourists, from the Alhambra to the cathedral to the city’s famous tapas. Now, Granada CF’s stadium tour is another cutting-edge experience that the city is excited to show off, which is why local politicians Pablo García, José Antonio Huertas and Luis Salvador joined Granada CF general director Patricia Rodríguez and Bstadium CEO Joaquín Martínez at the official presentation of the new stadium tour.

As the club stated: “The objective is to turn the stadium into a facility that is used beyond the matchday and that becomes an innovative and sustainable part of the offering for tourists visiting the city and province. Our intention is to work together with the city and province to unite tourism and innovation and to, as a club, continue promoting Granada to the world. What we’re offering is complementary to the rich variety of attractions in the city and its surroundings, as we provide sports enthusiasts with an experience that is exclusive, differential and pioneering in Spanish football.”

Like many clubs, Granada CF are looking for ways to bring in revenue from their stadium every day of the week, not just on matchdays. Creating a stadium tour that is unlike any other in Spain is one way to achieve this, although there are many more plans and these will be made possible thanks to the Boost LaLiga project, through which LaLiga clubs are receiving funds to invest in the future.

On this, Granada CF added: “Thanks to Boost LaLiga, the club intends to improve the stadium infrastructure so that it can offer sporting, cultural and gastronomic activities seven days a week. It will be a multifunctional space that will offer attractive experiences for the Granada CF fans and for all tourists visiting our city.”
