RCD Mallorca establish a strategic agreement with Japanese club Shimizu S-Pulse
  • The two clubs have signed a partnership that will run until June 30th, 2024, with the aim of exchanging their respective views and experiences in the sporting, communication and commercial fields.
  • This collaboration will help RCD Mallorca to continue developing the club’s internationalisation strategy in what is a key market for the entity.

RCD Mallorca and Shimizu S-Pulse, a football club from Japan, have signed a collaboration agreement that will run until June 30th, 2024. Thanks to this, the Spanish club can consolidate its growth in Asia and, particularly, in Japan. The club’s main sponsor is Taica Corporation and acted as a common connection, since the company is also a partner of the Japanese team.

As Alfonso Díaz, the CEO of Business at RCD Mallorca, explained: “This agreement with Shimizu S-Pulse will strengthen our ties with Asia and with Japan in particular. Our main sponsor, Taica Corporation, have played an important role, since they are also a partner of Shimizu, helping us to establish a relationship with a sister club and helping us to continue our internationalisation strategy in sporting and commercial matters.”

With 30 years of experience in Japanese football, Shimizu is a club based in the area of the same name, a place with a long-standing football tradition. Díaz continued: “Shimizu S-Pulse are a club with a proud tradition in Japanese football and are the best possible partner for us, since we’re the club that has had the most Japanese players in Spanish football. Yoshito Okubo, Akihiro Ienaga and Takefusa Kubo have given us that Japanese experience that we now want to implement at all levels.”

Discussing the objectives of this collaboration agreement, Díaz said: “We want there to be collaboration between the two clubs at all levels. We both want to exchange our experiences and this will require a lot of communication and good follow-up of the agreement. It is an agreement that covers a lot, from training methods for the first team to communication and commercial aspects. Both parties will work closely together to exchange views and experiences.”

Meanwhile, Shinya Yamamuro, the president of Shimizu S-Pulse, expressed gratitude for “the confidence RCD Mallorca have shown in signing this agreement” and he has promised to work with the Spanish club to implement all the points that were agreed.

Japan is a market RCD Mallorca know well

Just this past summer, an RCD Mallorca delegation travelled to Japan to announce the renewal of their contract with Alpha Gel by Taica Corporation for another season. Through this agreement, the Japanese multinational company appears on the front of RCD Mallorca’s shirts, and they used this event to present the 2022/23 playing kits, with footballer Dani Rodríguez acting as the model.

There, the RCD Mallorca player proved to be very popular among the Japanese fans, who were able to take photos with him and ask for autographs during the visit to Chuo University, which was made alongside Alfonso Díaz. The islanders’ trip to Japan was rounded off with a visit to take in a match between Yokohama and Shimizu.
