The last time that Barcelona’s Arthur Melo and the singer Felipe Araujo saw each other was last April, when the midfielder was in Brazil to record a video with his friend and compatriot.

LaLiga Santander and Barcelona recently made it possible for the footballer and singer to enjoy a light-hearted reunion, one that went down very well, especially with Brazilian fans of Spanish football.

The 23-year-old is a superstar in his homeland due to extremely popular recent releases. He is best known for his song ‘Atrasadinha’, the video for which has exceeded 215 million views on YouTube. When you accumulate Araujo’s social media accounts across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube, he has almost 8.5 million followers.

Both Araujo and the ‘Blaugrana’ star were born in the same city of Goiania and have been good friends for a long time. Bringing them together once again resulted in an overwhelmingly positive response on social media.

Each man publicised the meeting through their various official profiles, as did both LaLiga Santander and FC Barcelona. In addition, international media were quick to share news of the merging of two of Brazil’s most popular talents. The result was an engagement rate of over 675,000 among the followers of both Arthur and Felipe’s accounts as well as the league and club.

Araujo began his visit with a tour of the Camp Nou and the club’s facilities, with Arthur welcoming him at one of the training complexes at the Joan Gamper Sports City.

After a chat and catch-up between the men on the pitch they swapped roles as the singer showed his ability with the ball at his feet, while Arthur attempted his own version of ‘Atrasadinha’.

The Barcelona experience for Araujo was completed by attending the Catalan derby as the Blaugrana made the trip across the city to face RCD Espanyol de Barcelona.

He proved to be a good luck charm for Ernesto Valverde’s men as they went on to win 4-0 in a game in which Lionel Messi wowed the world once more with two fantastic free-kicks.

The only downside for the visiting vocalist was that he didn’t get to see his injured friend in action, although he did bring a No. 8 jersey back to Brazil with him as a memento of the occasion.
