LaLiga signs global licensing agreement with StadioPlus to carry out a joint project in the Decentraland metaverse
  • LaLiga and StadioPlus, together with Vegas City Limited, sign an agreement that aims to reach out to new generations and enhance interaction with fans around the world.
  • Through this alliance, a series of LaLiga-themed land parcels will be developed within the Vegas City district, which owns Decentraland's largest sports, gaming and entertainment zones. 

With the aim of reaching out to new generations and boosting interaction with fans around the world, LaLiga has signed a licensing agreement with StadioPlus for the use of LaLiga's Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights and their commercial use in the Decentraland metaverse.

Through this agreement, a series of LaLiga-themed land parcels will be developed within the Vegas City district, which owns Decentraland's largest sports, gaming and entertainment areas. 

StadioPlus is a Spanish company that provides technology and guidance to the sports industry in connecting it to the Web3 world, while Vegas City Limited is a company specializing in the creation of experiences based on the metaverse and blockchain.

Jon Fatelevich, CEO y Co-Founder of StadioPlus, stated: “StadioPlus is on a mission to be the bridge between the sports industry and the future. Therefore, we are delighted to have reached this agreement with LaLiga, with whom we have been working together for many months on the development and integration of the competition in Decentraland, and we are confident that we will provide a great experience for football fans and Web3 fans alike”.

Stephen Ibbotson, Head of Franchises and Licensing at LaLiga added: “For LaLiga it is essential to continue innovating in ways to offer the best of the competition to our fans, both on and off the pitch. This licensing agreement will allow us to reach a new and significant audience, like that of Decentraland.”

For his part James Ashton, CEO of Vegas City Limited said: “We are very excited to work with LaLiga, StadioPlus and Decentraland to develop a football project that will surprise and offer new experiences to our audiences. We are tapping into Decentraland's capabilities to deliver high-value, Web3-enabled content”.

Finally, Agus Ferreira, CEO of the Decentraland Foundation commented: “Part of Decentraland's vision is to enable and create experiences for all types of people. We believe that sport is an incredible opportunity to showcase the possibilities of Web3 and decentralisation. That's why we are delighted to be working with StadioPlus on the inclusion of LaLiga in Decentraland, to bring the competition, which has hundreds of millions of fans around the world, to the metaverse”. 

The Decentraland metaverse, demonstrates that the blockchain ecosystem is constantly evolving, as it reaches the world of sports and entertainment. It aims to create a decentralised and open virtual world in which users can have experiences just as they do in the physical world. Users can create unique avatars to socialise, explore and trade thanks to blockchain technology.

This licensing agreement demonstrates LaLiga's commitment to new approaches that allow the Spanish competition and its clubs to reach new audiences and offer unique and innovative experiences to fans around the world.
