Deportivo Alavés install a photovoltaic plant at the club’s sporting complex to reduce the energy impact of the facility
  • Bakh, the sporting complex of Deportivo Alavés and Baskonia (Liga Endesa), is becoming more sustainable and self-sufficient thanks to the installation of an innovative photovoltaic plant on the roof of the complex.
  • The percentage of photovoltaic consumption at the site will be 55% of the daytime consumption of the entire sporting complex.

The Baskonia-Alavés Group is continuing to make progress in sustainability. The Vitoria-based institution is committed to self-sufficiency and a development plan has been drawn up to make the sporting complex more sustainable through the construction of a photovoltaic plant, consisting of 1,170 photovoltaic panels on the roof of the facility.

This photovoltaic plant will provide 55% of the daytime energy consumption of the entire facility, which will lead to a reduction in emissions across the Bakh sporting complex. This is the centre that not only hosts the football team Deportivo Alavés but also the Baskonia basketball team of the Liga Endesa. The centre also has a children's leisure area, a gym and other areas for indoor and outdoor activities (ice skating, swimming, paddle courts, etc.) for members to use.

Commitment to saving energy and to sustainability

This initiative is the latest example of the commitment to saving energy and to sustainability that exists at Deportivo Alavés. All those at the Basque club believe it is vital for there to be continued improvement and development of the club’s infrastructure and facilities in an effective and efficient way.

Deportivo Alavés also understand the social importance that football clubs have, so have shared messages about making progress in sustainability. The club explained: “It is important that we make the most of the platform and resources that the mass media and LaLiga provide us with to try to do everything in our power to work on making football and its facilities as sustainable as possible.”

The Vitoria-based institution want to become a benchmark in sustainability and have outlined their next steps. They stated: “Our plan is to continue working on energy issues. With new infrastructures we are going to develop more photovoltaic installations, and even a pilot project on hydrogen issues. Meanwhile, we are going to be working more on recycling, on using biodegradable wrapping and packaging and on measuring and managing our carbon footprint.”

In this way, Deportivo Alavés remain committed to having innovative infrastructure with advanced features, all with the aim of improving sustainability.
